Chapter Nine

Days passed since his first date and morning tryst with Ethan. They hadn’t seen each other in about three days now, but Ethan was at least becoming more and more talkative. They talked at least twice a day—once at noon, and once again before the two of them went to bed. With everything happening so quickly on that first night they met going into the morning where he invited Ethan over, he needed to take the time to at least let the man ruminate on his decision. After all, he needed to get Ethan used to him so he could share more about this part of his life with the young, blond-haired, blue-eyed artist.

Despite everything feeling like smooth sailing, there was a little part of Adam that felt conflicted with how comfortable it was to be with Ethan. Their personalities matched. Adam was an introspective sort, someone who didn’t usually share every part of his day, and Ethan was much the same. They were like two sides of the same coin. Ethan wore his personality on his sleeve, and though he was uncomfortable of social situations, he didn’t seem nearly as bad as he wanted to seem. He was protective and outspoken, that much was true, and he had a tendency to bite off more than he could chew. That much Adam figured out in the time they were together. Adam, was the same with a majority of his friends. He was protective, and although he wasn’t an outspoken sort, he did make his opinions clear when he didn’t like what was happening.

What Adam couldn’t figure out for the past few days was the conflicting feeling inside of him regarding Ethan. On one end—he knew almost immediately that he loved the man. He was a hundred percent sure of that, but on the other hand, he felt bad for moving on. Even if his wife wasn’t his mate, she was still an important part of him. Hell, she was an important part of the lives of his friends too, and they had been childhood friends. And he did lose a child because of complications in her pregnancy.

He had been selfish, and thought that saving his partner was better than saving their child. He ended up with neither of them, and though he regretted it every day and felt the weight of it in his heart, it seemed like the weight of everything didn’t matter at all when Ethan was around.

Ethan was like sunshine in Adam’s life, and he couldn’t figure out why, although even Adam knew that there were certain things that were answered only through feelings than with cold, hard logic. Ethan was quirky in that he was a worrywart and had a tendency to overthink everything. Adam was more the type of person who could handle when things moved and switched around on him. He had the tendency to go with the flow—something he had much in common with Thatcher, actually. It made him a good alpha because he was adaptable to the situation and he was quick to know the best time to move.
